How I hold my camera steady
It’s one of the most frustrating struggles of the typical photographer: unsteady hands. Sometimes it will cost you a dozen shots, sometimes it will cost you your next masterpiece. Moments are fleeting and seconds are quick and when that picture-perfect scene passes, it’s gone. And you can’t bring it back.
So what should you do? Here are some things I practise myself:
- Think still. Concentrate on the weight of the camera in your hands.
- Try tucking your thumb under the base of the camera. This should help to keep it steady.
- Improvise. Sit down, support your camera with a drawn-up leg and anchor the lens on your knee.
- Hold your breath. Surely it won’t take forever.
Do you have other tricks up your sleeve? Feel free to share them below.
